Garmin Approach G3 Review – Read What Others Have To Say About It:

Review By: Lionel Jenkins

I purchased the Garmin G3 for only two reasons. The price and lack of subscription. I got more than I paid for. The features of the G3 definitely give the average golfer the best bang for his (or her) buck. I read many reviews on many different GPS systems.  Not only did I read the reviews, but I went into the local golf stores to get a good idea of the user ability and to compare the reviews I had read of both the SGX and the G3.  I have no problem reading the screen and knowing the location of hazards.  I greatly enjoy being able to navigate through the courses prior to arriving at the course.  Inputting in the scores and players are also relatively easy. I particularly like moving the pin around on the green to make my club selection a little more accurate. I often used the markers on the course to verify the accuracy of the GPS, and it is almost always right on target. Another good feature that I like is that while I browse course on the system I can get the address and phone number right off the screen and call to set up a tee time.  Overall, I am very pleased with the Garmin G3. The score taking, accuracy, pin location, look, fell, durability, and did I mention the tough screen. The touch screen is perfect. I definitely think that I got my money’s worth.   Most importantly, go out, buy it, enjoy it, and have fun.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Magellan 610 – Our Opinion:

This Handheld GPS Navigation unit has acquired some really positive feedback from actual users.  The positives include, that it is great for hiking and geocaching, that it is durable, easy to use, compact, with a good battery life.  The inclusive Summit Series maps are a great addition.  The unit is considered to be of a rugged and sturdy design, benefiting from being waterproof too, so an accidental drop in a puddle should not affect its performance.  The touch screen is a decent size, it is accurate to use, the camera is enjoyed by many too, and some people consider it better than some of the other market leaders, so plenty of reasons to consider such a Handheld GPS Navigation Unit as a positive addition to your outdoors equipment list.  The negatives, one person had there’s arrive and it was malfunctioning and had to be returned, and one person felt the battery life could be a bit longer too.

Handheld GPS Navigation Reviews – Read what Others Have To Say About The Magellan 610:

Review By: Stacey Dorsey

I’ve had this unit for a while now and am extremely pleased with it. The topo map quality (and pre-loaded street maps, for that matter) are nothing short of impressive. The kicker for me was having the detailed trail maps of the state parks in my area which was what I had been looking for in a new unit. The camera quality is good. Perfect for hiking/geocaching and taking pictures while on the go. The paperless caching is awesome, replacing the Palm that I had been using for the past 6 years. Having the full descriptions, hints, logs, etc. at your fingertips is great.  I’ve found the unit to be very accurate with little of the historic “Magellan boomerang” when approaching “Ground Zero”.  The menu is easy to navigate and it allows you to customize your own short-cuts to your most frequently-used functions. All in all, a GPS that I would highly recommend for anybody looking for a solid unit that has enhanced features.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Boy we just love this portable touchscreen hiking GPS. The accuracy of this product is awesome. We’ve calculated it to about up to 3ft and that’s just exceptional.  And of course you get the special geocashing features with this unit as well. You also have the optional Micro Sd slot for extra storage capacity.  As for the modes it has pedestrian, cycling, mariner, car & hiking modes. We took it for a car drive and love the feature that tells us our current & average speeds along with distances traveled. This is great for offshore fishing. You can save all those little fishing spots you’ve found and share them with family & friends. Also, it’s truly portable & very durable. You can drop it, wet it, and walk on it and it still works! Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Handheld GPS Navigation – Garmin ETrex Venture HC Review

The ETrex Venture HC is a really useful piece of kit to take with you on your outdoor adventures.  It will help you to find your way through the toughest of terrains.  The integral highly sensitive WAAS enabled receiver quickly establishes your location and will maintain its position, even in the thickest of vegetation and cover.

Garmin ETrex Venture HC Review – Our Opinion:

There are a lot of reviews on this Handheld GPS Navigation system, we actually found 268 of them.  The majority are clearly 4* and the maximum 5* ratings.  One hundred and nineteen of them were at the maximum 5* ratings, eighty four of them are at 4*, then twenty nine of them are at 3*, seventeen are 2*, and nineteen are 1* ratings.

The positives obviously far outweigh the negatives by quantity, but it is definitely useful to read the comments, good and bad, to help you to decide if this is the best unit for you, or if it has any major flaws and therefore should be avoided.

The reasons for the negative comments are often in direct conflict with the positives.  For example some feel that it is not good for geocaching, whilst others think it is great.  The one common thread that does run through as a negative is that the base maps are not particularly good, and so additional ones may be required.

But the positive comments made for example include: Excellent GPS, Great For Geocaching, Best Entry Level/Budget GPS Receiver, For The Price The Greatest, Awesome GPS, Great GPS Value, Perfect For Beginners.

Some of the negatives include: Poor quality, unreliable, not worth the money, will not accept maps.

But the general consensus of opinion is that this is a good entry level Handheld GPS Navigation Unit, for sure it does not have all the bells and whistles that some of the newer units have, but it also doesn’t have their price tag, this is now available at a good and cheap price, in the region of $120.

Garmin ETrex Venture HC Review Features:

The ETrex Venture HC is a really useful piece of kit to take with you on your outdoor adventures.  It will help you to find your way through the toughest of terrains.  The integral highly sensitive WAAS enabled receiver quickly establishes your location and will maintain its position, even in the thickest of vegetation and cover.

The ETrex Venture has an easy to use menu, made all the more simple to operate with the unique button layout.  There are five operator buttons on the sides; this is a great feature because you can operate it with one hand which may be necessary when active outdoors, and also because the buttons are located on the side it allows for the screen to take up a larger area.

The 256 color display screen is sunlight readable so this should ensure that you can clearly read the details on screen no matter what the weather or time of day.  The housing is IPX7 and waterproof which is an added bonus!

There is 24 megabytes (MB) of internal memory for you to use.  You can create and view 10 track logs, including up to 500 waypoints.  There is a detailed basemap, so this will allow you to add routes and waypoints from the provided MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager Software.

Other features include a hunting and fishing calendar, sun and moon data, and there is even a geocaching mode for all geocaching enthusiasts too.  When you are out enjoying the great outdoors it will be useful to know that you should get in the range of 14 hours usage on two AA batteries.

So having read the Garmin ETrex Venture HC Review, and carried out your own Handheld GPS Navigation Unit comparisons, you will hopefully have selected the best choice for you.

Review By: Elmer Corder

I first bought this model almost three years ago – and I’ve just ordered another as my old one finally bit the dust. It was the first GPS device I’ve owned so I can’t say how long you should expect one to last – but as a photographer who does a lot of hiking and travelling down old roads, I fell in love with this gizmo right off the bat and have come to really depend on it.  Considering how much I’ve come to depend on the thing, it’s worth the price to me to just get a new one. Tests I’ve done with it are just dead-on accurate – and this thing has followed me though a deep, narrow, heavily-wooded canyon where I’ve met other hikers who’s GPS had lost the signal. (More expensive ones, too! And they’ve been amazed that mine was still tracking-along with about 15-foot accuracy!).  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Review By: T Wright

I’ve owned my garmin etrex Venture HC for about a month. I wasn’t looking for an automotive GPS, I wanted a hiking-flying-fishing-traveling GPS. It gave me speed, altitude, and positional awareness when flying in general aviation aircraft. It showed the Canadian border when on Lake Erie. It’s great! It seems to run a long time on a set of batteries (how long specifically, I don’t know…ten to fourteen hours I suppose…I really don’t care, I’m not a statistician) and after a few hours of use it’s intuitive. And this puppy will lock on to satellites VERY fast and will keep on them even on the first floor of my two story home. This is my third GPS, my first Garmin, and I’m hooked on it. It was $113 from Amazon, shipped!   Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Handheld GPS Navigation – Garmin 76CSX Review

This superb Handheld GPS Navigation Unit boasts a highly sensitive GPS receiver by SiRF.  It is primarily aimed towards mariners and boaters, however it will track your position in canyons and under dense cover too.  It has an integral electric compass and barometric altimeter. Weighing in at a slight 7.6 ounces, it is ready to take you wherever you wish to go, on land or water.

Handheld GPS Navigation – Garmin 76CSX Review – Our Opinion:

The 133 reviews found on this product were generally very positive.  112 customers gave the product 4* or 5 * ratings, infact 78 of them gave it the maximum of 5*.  The remaining customer reviews were nine 3*, three 2*, and nine 1* ratings.

The overall consensus of opinion is that this is a great unit on land or water, it is accurate easy to use and loved by many.  The negatives were for mixed reasons, but it has to be said that for that any negative points made, they were counter-balanced by so many positives on the same subject.

There is now a new model available, the Garmin GPSMAP 78SC  (Click Here To View) 2.6 inch, Waterproof Marine GPS and Chartplotter, it is more expensive but already has only the maximum of 5* ratings.

Handheld GPS Navigation – Garmin 76CSX Review of Features:

The 76CSx’s 2.6 inch LED Backlit display is in TFT color, and is easy to interpret in all kinds of weathers thanks to the bright sunlight readable screen, so you should be able to read the maps and trip information with ease.

The on board trip computer provides you with an odometer, moving average, stop time, overall average, max speed, total time, and more.  The rapid processor provides you with auto routing, audio alerts, and turn by turn directions.

Another great feature on the 76CSx is the 10,000 point automatic track log.  This includes 20 saved tracks with 500 points to each.  It allows you to retrace your route in both directions.

The barometric altimeter features automatic pressure trend recording, and will give you data on current elevation, maximum and minimum elevation, ascent and descent rates, averages and totals of ascents and descents.  The on board electronic compass provides you with accurate headings while standing still.

The Garmin 76CSX also features a removable microSD card, this allows you to use it for detailed mapping memory.  If you choose to use the optional MapSource software you can store it on the inclusive micro SD card.  You could also opt to purchase pre-programmed SD cards from Garmin that include information such as topographic maps, nautical charts, and city streets.  The unit already has a preloaded Americas autoroute basemap, this will give info on automatic routing capabilities, to include highways and exits.  There is also a preloaded marine point database and tide data.

The lightweight case is up to the task too, it is rugged and water resistant.  It is up to the required IEC standards, and can therefore be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes, so an accidental drop in a stream will not harm it.  Another great feature that is well liked amongst mariners is the fact that this great piece of kit actually floats on the water! Even the SD card slot is situated within the waterproof battery compartment.

Other features of the Garmin 76CSX include a good battery life, up to 20 hours when using two AA Alkaline batteries.   There are hunting and fishing timetables, and sun and moon info too.  There are also audible alarms for anchor drag, off course, arrival, clock, and proximity waypoint.

So if you are looking for a Handheld GPS Navigation unit, and having read the Garmin 76CSX review, you will more than likely compare this to others on the market and make the best choice for your circumstances including the Garmin 76CSX best price too.

Garmin 76CSX Review – Read What Other Customers Say About It:

Review By: M. Coffing

I have lived in Alaska more than 30 years and I am an avid boater, hunter, snowmobiler that travels in very remote parts of the state. I also participate in two search and rescue organizations. The sensitivity of the GPS receiver in the 76CSx is incredible. I can turn it on and set it on the living room floor 5 feet from a window and it will lock onto three or more satellites and give me a fix. When snowmachining or hunting, I can leave the GPS in the Garmin case, inside the top pocket of my daypack and it will stay locked on to the satellites and create track as I travel without having to worry about it. In a vehicle and aircraft, the built-in receiver has always worked fine. I have not needed a remote antenna.  I would recommend this unit without hesitation. It has saved me from possible disaster when boating, has provided additional confidence when out on the water and back country and has been equally helpful when driving through large cities and across the country in a rental car.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Review By: Evan

I was looking for a water proof GPS unit to take both tour kayaking & backpacking. Looked around for at least a year then bought this one. Having logged over 100 mi. paddled this season I can say that it works well in water.  Hard key pad buttons make navigating the screens easy but only after you get the hang of where things are. Battery life is excellent, exceeding my expectations. So far I have no need for additional maps. The only time I have lost a sat. signal is in a cave or a tunnel so far.  Overall a great unit. Technologically the best civilians can get for outdoor use at this time -so 5 stars.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Review By: Fair Deal Guy, Jan 2011

But the eXplorist 510 sets the bar higher than most competing models and does it with style.  The first thing you notice when you open the box is 1) how small the actual unit is, and 2) how large the color display is in relation to the rest of the case. This provides exceptional clarity and detail in a form factor that’s perfectly suited for even small hands.   This is definitely the unit to buy of you want a flexible, waterproof, feature-rich, and rugged handheld GPS.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Review By: Drew Ross, Jan 2011

So, for the maps alone, this device is worth it. But, I actually found myself using many of the other features as well.  First of all, the device is really tough and fits in your hand nicely. I haven’t tested the waterproof claim yet, but it seems to be well designed for wet situations.  You can mark way points to chart your return, even taking pictures along the way. Each picture you take has a grid coordinate to make certain you can find it. This is the ultimate trail of bread crumbs.  Review paraphrased for size, read full review here.

Garmin Vista HCx Testimonials

Why not read what current owners have to say about the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx:

Review By: Redbeard, Jan 2011

One Terrific Design. I use mine for bike touring. It does it all: if I arrive in a distant city and have to drive to my hotel, I use it to navigate in the car. Once I get to the ride start, I put the HCx on the bike and it shows me a map of nearby terrain. I normally use the 0.2 mile or 0.3 mile scale while biking to show the nearby streets. I can upload the recent tracks to my computer. And, I can plot out new routes and download them to the GPS. It works all day on a pair of rechargeable AAs.  It works overseas (Europe, South America), and it’s even fun to take on a train trip. It shows nearby restaurants, hotels, bike shops, gas stations, etc.
Be sure to buy the CD of City Navigator instead of the SD card or the download. That will allow you to set your own routes on the computer and download to the GPS. I have lost two over the years and I’m now on my third. I just have not found a better design.

Review By: Average Joe Buckaroo, Dec 2010

I use this for two purposes. Foremost is for marking waypoints when I am hiking about and want to record the location of observations. Its excellent for that. I download these with GPS babel in GPX format so I have text records of my waypoints, and also use it with National Geographic TOPO maps on my computer. I’ve never installed additional maps and yet it has helped me, by turning the tracking on and comparing the bends in map to the bends in paper maps to figure out exactly where I was on some obscure dirt road in Nevada more than once. I also use it for casual, not die-hard, geocaching with my kids for occassional fun. For these purposes, it is excellent and I have used in both North and South America. I like the small size, light weight, and its not too hard to use once you learn how it works (navigating menus, etc). I don’t use it as a primary navigation device for my car (although I have in backcountry when needed).

Form meets function with Garmin’s high-performance line of personal trainers.  The Garmin Forerunner 305 includes a highly sensitive GPS receiver, and so you can exercise or train to your optimum performance, and not forgetting the the wireless heart rate monitor which you can use too.

The Forerunner 305 features an integrated, high-sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS receiver. This means that the Garmin Forerunner 305′s ability to track, and maintain a lock on your position is superior to any other before it, providing highly accurate speed and distance data, as well as improved tracking under trees and near tall buildings.

Garmin Forerunner 305′s courses feature lets you compete against previous workouts: you can compare your pace and heart rate to your past performance over the same run. You also can use Forerunner 305 to train for your next biathlon or triathlon with multi-sport workouts, a feature that lets you seamlessly transition between sports without resetting the unit, so you can use it for running, biking and more.

Although the Forerunner 305 isn’t sold primarily as a GPS navigation device, it does have some rudimentary mapping, waypoint marking, and routing capabilities. It allows you to mark locations during your route, zoom in and out of a map that shows your path and direction.  Another great feature is the “go to location” option, this you can use to route yourself back to your start point, or to another location you may choose to get to.  If you select several points on your routes, you can then save it on your Forerunner creating a route and therefore you can select the same route at another time whenever you choose.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 Reviews:Why not read what current owners have to say about it:

Review By: L.A. Cotter, Jan 2011

So much has already been said about this product, so I will keep this short. It is an excellent workout tool. I love it for running as well as cycling. I recently lost mine, and have been going through withdraw, I will be buying a new one ASAP. I love knowing how far I’ve gone and at what pace. It also is extremely helpful if you used pace based training plans (or if your just a numbers junky!).  One important note, I have a tiny wrist, and thought I would hate this b/c of it’s size, but I quickly got used it, it is not aggravating at all, and I actually came to like the big display. This is a purchase well worth every penny!

Review By: lknboater, Jan 2011

This GPS watch is great for knowing how far you are actually running, plus heart rate, pace, averages, etc. etc. I love being able to easily upload all the data that it collects to my computer. I love seeing my track on Google Earth. It is large, but its size does not bother me at all and I have skinny wrists. For the price, this thing is incredible. Highly recommend.

We used forerunner 305′s basic mapping capability as tourists. In several occasions, the GPS helped us to get back to our hotel, even though we didn’t know the streets and directions. The GPS drew graph on its screen while we walked, and when we wanted to go back, all we did was to walk in the direction approaching the origin in the graph.

In The Box:

Forerunner 305, Garmin Training Center CD-ROM, heart rate monitor, docking cradle, expander strap, A/C charger, USB cable, owner’s manual, quick start guide.

The Garmin 60csx wins hands down in almost every outdoor situation I’ve been in. On or off road, the unit holds a steady lock whether navigating through dense concrete jungles or under the thickest forest canopy. The solid build of the 60csx is very reassuring – it doesn’t squeak nor feel flimsy compared to the newer Garmin 62 series. I will bring this 60csx anywhere, anytime!

Review By: Federico Poggioli, Nov 2010

This is the fourth 60CSx I buy, and you may wonder why? Simple, I take them everywhere so they end up being exposed to water navigation in an open deck vessel (direct sunlight and sea water splash), hiking in the Andean range (highest altitude reached 15,550 ft) and freezing temperatures below zero, have used it at every single MTB ride I made (lots of vibration, mud and sweat) and during a 4×4 rally connected to a lap top. The 60CSx is a rugged device suitable and designed for all these activities. Light and accurate, easy to use from its very begining and fairly complete display information.
I just physically have destroyed them, otherwise the 60CSx is designed to last forever.

Review On DeLOrme PN-60 By: Aaron Carlson, Jan 2011

I purchased this at thanksgiving and have been using it moderately since then. This is the first handheld GPS I’ve ever used and I have to say I really enjoy it. I was a little nervous at first, due to some reviews stating it is difficult to “figure out”. I have found that to not be the case at all. To me, it has been very intuitive to figure out, and any questions I had were answered either in the manual or the help section included on the software. I have spent a lot of time making maps on the Topo 9.0 software and transferring them to the PN-60 effortlessly. I have also used it for geocaching and find it very easy to use. Just load the caches onto the PN-60, and when you find one, you just press a button on the PN-60. The next time you sync the PN-60 with your computer, it automatically pops-up a window from geocaching.com where you can complete your log of the cache. I don’t know how it can be any easier than that. I’ve also recorded routes on the PN-60, transferred them to Topo 9.0, at which point I exported the data to use on Google Earth, to get a cool 3-D view of my track and the terrain.
All in all, even though I have nothing to compare it to, I think this is an awesome device and whole-heartedly recommend it.
